Master of Science in Financial Management

Overview

The programme provides students with an opportunity to develop and apply professional and master’s level knowledge, understanding and skills within accountancy and finance related context. The programme will require students to assimilate master’s level knowledge and demonstrate critical appraisal of alternative solutions to financial decision making based on systematic analysis of complex business problems. Students will also be required to demonstrate independent research capability and present complex ideas through a range of different media appropriate to finance professional.

 

This programme, though academic in delivery and institution, is benched marked against the following professional associations and institutions to ensure high technical skill, professional and ethical exposure

  • Associate of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
  • Forum for International Trade Training (FITT)
  • Institute of Risk Management (IRM)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE)

 

Students of the Master of Master of Science in Financial Management is expected to

  • Develop an advanced understanding of financial models and management techniques.
  • Understand the strategic dimension when applying specific models and techniques to support decision making.
  • Understand complex models and concepts underpinning financial decisions that underpin assumptions of value creation within organizations.
  • Understand the complex internal and external relationships for organizations when management makes decisions.
  • Apply research skills to support financial decision-making analysis.
  • Assimilate, identify and critically appraise data used for financial decisions at a strategic level in organizations.

Matriculation/Articulation Requirements

To matriculate to the programme, applicants must fulfil one of the following:

  • Holders of a Bachelor of Science Degree with at least a GPA of 2.5.
  • Mature entry (Application of Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition – PLAR).

 Persons who do not have the required GPA or uses Mature entry may be accepted through an interview process, submission of a portfolio and assigned bridging courses. The potential candidate should demonstrate work experience and additional certification achieved.
