Overview
The programme is designed to produce graduates who are able to:
• Apply pedagogical theories and concepts to design, implement, and evaluate teaching and learning, to achieve curricula outcomes at their level of practice.
• Conduct research to identify and address issues impacting the learning environment; and be respectful of evidence and reasoning when making judgements about students, programmes, and schools.
• Apply emotional awareness, diagnostic and creative skills in addressing issues impacting the learning environment.
• Understand the importance of, and engage in, metacognition and critical reflection to continually improve practice.
To develop a cadre of teachers who are able to work independently and as part of a team to create, administer, and evaluate learning experiences for students so that they can:
• Investigate, analyse, and think critically
• Question assumptions and make informed judgements
• Evaluate solutions and solve problems
• Apply learning and tackle new work confidently
• Work independently and also in a team
• Take account of the views of others
• Appreciate Jamaican culture and take pride in the Jamaican
identity while understanding Jamaica as part of a global
community

Excelsior Community College is a registered institution with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information (MoEYI) in Jamaica, and the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ), the local accreditation body.
Excelsior Community College obtained Candidacy for Institutional Accreditation in March 2019 from the UCJ. As such, our Masters’ Degree programmes curricula are developed in alignment with the UCJ’s and recognized industries occupational standards. Additionally, our programmes are aligned to the Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission (J-TEC), the National Qualifications Framework of Jamaica (NQF-J) and certifications are to be offered by the Council of Community Colleges of Jamaica (CCCJ).
